I too work on large projects for weeks and weeks. It seems when I get a project up to several hundred changes, something weird might happen. Not all the time, but enough to make me suspect there is some kind of bug. I back up to a good version of the song, and remember the song title. But Logic not recognizing proper sampling, names, length, regions, is pretty severe.
Look in Logic’s ‘project audio’ and then also examine the audio folder on your drive. Start a NEW project and drag one of the so called ‘corrupted’ audio files in. If it plays OK then means definitely your song project is corrupted.
You can try deleting Logic Plists. All you will loose is any keyboard shortcuts you set-up.. Another trick is to close apps. That is hold down Macs Power on button, When mac shuts off, keep holding Power button, down and pull out power cord.
This resets some other aspects of Mac. Next do a “PRAM reset”. This downloads a fresh copy of the OSX your are using. It will take a while 15 – 30 minutes depending on computer. You don’t loose anything, and sometimes this has helped. They’ve had various policies over the years of who they would help.
I always buy the 3 year warrantee, cause it guarantees, they will give all the tech support you need. Last few times my 3 year warrantee had run out, but they still offered free support. I also took computer to Apple store, they performed a number of diagnostic procedures, so at least you know the computer is working fine. My 3 experiences of project corruption like yours ended in my backtracking till I found a version of song that worked.
Importing it into a new empty project and starting over. Periodically save your song. Re-open the song to make sure it’s ok..
Once a song gets corrupt, every further save will be corrupt. I often individually ‘export my individual midi files’ into a spare folder, in case projects goes really corrupt.
Remember Midi starts on the first recorded event. So if you don’t start playing till measure Harpsichord Modart-measure 33, etc. I usually record the whole track of audio starting and measure 1, beat 1, if I have to drag in again. In the future take the time to name audio files.
Name the audio track before starting to record, and I believe Logic names it that.. If you re-name later. Always do inside of Logic, not directly on your hard drive. If both your project and back up project are messed, it again implies, the corrupt project. Once the project is corrupted, and Logic thinks the audio is 8 samples any further saves are messed up, hence the period save, quit Logic and re-start Logic and open the project.
Consolidating an audio track can be helpful. I sometimes put an audio ‘click at the beginning of the audio track. If my track is sparse, I just punch in, at appropriate place. I then ‘merge’ the audio regions into one continuous track. That way if project gets corrupted , I just pull the audio files into measure one, beat one.
I’ve only ever had all my audio regions get totally corrupted a few times in many years. I am leery of saving as projects, all parts in one package because if it gets corrupted everything is messed up.. Others here might disagree with me on this part.
However, the risk is, all further versions, use the same folder of audio files. So if those audio could get corrupted at any time. However saving as a package, each project contains a fresh copy of audio files. This will rapidly take up significant disk space, as the number of projects stored on your drive.
This might be safer for you as far as the audio files. The advantage of save as folder, is project is much smaller, And it’s easy to go back to an earlier version, if you don’t like the directions the project has taken. It’s also possible to go back to a much earlier and recover that brilliant elect piano that that you discarded.
To do this with songs saved ‘project’ will take up more and hard drive space. I’ve been using Logic for almost 30 years before Apple bought it from Emagic in Germany. I have only had corrupted audio file perhaps 5 times in those years. Did your drive become low on storage space? How many GB do you have free on the system drive.
What is the exact format of your internal drive, Mac OS Extended or the more recent format? Could not find the exact data on Harddrive, so I am adding another image here if that makes sense. Its and kinda old MacBook pro, but I have no issues with it. I have been running logic on it for a long time. I have experienced this issue before, but not to such an extend as now.
